Simon Wilson is CEO of Markel Insurance and is based in London. In his role, Simon is responsible for leading the company's three primary underwriting businesses – Markel Specialty, Markel International, and Markel Global Reinsurance. Collectively, these operations wrote around $10.5 billion of GWP in 2024.
Simon began his career with Deloitte Consulting, before moving to Lloyd’s where he ultimately led the Lloyd’s Asia platform, based in Singapore. Simon joined Markel in 2010 to build out the international network and subsequently ran the National Markets business unit. He later took responsibility for Markel’s Global Strategy team in addition to his responsibilities for the international division. In 2021, he was appointed President of Markel International and played a major role in the expansion of that business across Europe, Asia Pacific, and Canada.
Simon holds degrees in both Law and Management and is an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute. He also serves on the board of the International Underwriting Association as Deputy Chairman.
