Andrew McMellin joined Markel in January 2022 as Managing
Director, Wholesale and was promoted to President, International
in April 2025. Andrew has more than 35 years of experience in
specialty insurance, including Chief Executive roles at Pioneer
Underwriters and XL Catlin in London and the United States. He
has also held CUO and global casualty product roles and had spells
earlier in his career at Amlin and Willis.
Andrew is responsible for leading our International business,
leveraging his long-standing relationships and understanding of
key specialty markets to profitably grow and increase our strategic
presence.
Andrew holds a BSc (Hons) in Geology from Royal Holloway and is
a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute. He lives in South
East London with his wife, and has two daughters. He enjoys
cycling, skiing and occasional golf in his spare time. His favourite
films include Monty Python’s Life of Brian, The Blues Brothers and
Star Wars.
